Assistant Secretary
Miss Laura Archer Telephone: 07989 478756 |
The 2010 committee would like to thank the 2009 committee for their hard work in preparing the club for the 2010 season.
An event or show may only run for 12 hours, but it takes many 100′s hours effort to run.
The committee provide their time unpaid, and the club is run for the benifit of its members.
We are a friendly non-profit unaffiliated riding club with a permanent show ground located between Ashbourne and Derby (click here to find us). With over 30 years of history. New members are always welcome. Help is always needed in setting up and running events, if you can spare a few hours let us know.
The relaxed atmosphere and experienced committee make Longford an ideal club for anyone thinking of going to a show for the first time. Longford aims to help beginners and novices alike.
The friendly nature means we have members with us who have been with us for many years. A new face is always welcome, help and advice is never far away.
We hold shows throughout the spring and summer.
We also run a number of cross country events over our fantastic cross country course, from late winter to early autumn.
Developed of the past 15 years the cross country course is to a typical hunter trials design, with approximately 20 fences, each with 2 or 3 options over a 2 mile course over the rolling pasture land of Derbyshire. Yellow options to 2’3″ for those new to cross country, Green options to 2’9″ for the novice, and Blue options to 3’6″ for the open/intermediate horse and rider. The fences are a mix of permanent and portable designs, including a water splash, and gated section for use in hunter trials. The width and design of each fence takes into account a number of factors, including clear lines through the fence, and requirements such as teams and pairs using the course. During competitive cross country events, a centrally located course control and commentary box has visual contact with 80% of the course, and clear radio links to fences not in view.
The clubs owns two excellent public address systems which provide course wide and show ground coverage.
The club also owns its own professional, modern electronic timing gate system, with the ability to link to our large displays and laptops for both show jumping and cross country events. As used at many national and international events.
Cross country events include clear round days and weekends, a hunter trials, one day event and team chase.
Due to the considerable effort LDRC has placed in the design, maintenance and running of events over the course we are unable to “rent or loan” out the course to other clubs wishing to run events.
We do however always welcome competitors from other clubs and outside the area to our events. We often get people traveling over 100 miles to use the course.
The show ground has a toilet block, and a supply of fresh water.
We do however ask visitors to take rubbish home with them, including any spare hay or straw from horse boxes.
Food, hot and cold drinks are available at most shows in the form of a snack bar.
Photographers attend most shows.
The entrance to the show ground has a unique staggered fence design and cattle grid, which allows those hacking into the ground easy access, whilst the cattle grid is offset into the show ground by a few tens of yards to reduce the risk of the odd loose horse getting onto the lane.
Our parking areas have space for around 200 horse boxes.
The show ground is well drained owing to the structure of the soil.
We are always short on hands to help set up and take down the show ground, if you can help, however little, from clearing away a few bags of litter to helping move some of the 12 tonnes of equipment including.. show jumps (12 pairs of wings, 40 poles, 80cups), working hunter (10 pairs of wings, 30 poles 60 cups), trailers, boxes, flags, signs, arenas, ropes (up to 2miles of rope, 280 safety posts), cables, tables, chairs, speakers, timing gates, fillers, makers, practice fences, and games equipment needed to run the shows. All need putting away clean, tidy and ready for the next show.
